Fish Prices

A question I get asked quite a bit is "Why are your fish prices higher than other taxidermists'"?

The best answer I can give you is this: Fish taxidermy is a demanding art that depends heavily on the taxidermist's ability to bring your fish "back to life". A taxidermists knowledge of proper anatomy and painting expertise are an essential part of turning that memory into a quality mount. My high-quality approach combines knowledge and skill with a ONE FISH AT A TIME philosophy that allows me to focus on the individual details of each mount. I do not simply spray a few colors on your fish then add a few details and say it's done! I take great pride in my work and I do my best to make every mount look as realistic as it was when you caught it. I take my time to do it right. Your fish is important to you and is just as important to me, I treat every mount as an individual piece of art. ONE FISH AT A TIME. We all know catching a trophy fish does not happen every day so why waste your trophy on anything less than the best!

Freezing fish before mounting.

I get a lot of calls asking how a fish should be cared for before bringing it to your taxidermist. Obviously the best
answer is get it to your taxidermist immediately. While that is not always an option, the fish can be kept on ice until it's brought in if it will be for a short time. (Less than 12 hours, depending on temp.) If you are going to freeze it for any amount of time, I prefer this way. Soak a towel with water and wrap around your fish. Protect the tail from being bent if possible. Place that soaked towel with your fish in a plastic bag. Wrap the bag tight and seal with tape. Place fish in the freezer until you can get it to your taxidermist.

How long until I get my mount back?

One of the most common questions I get asked is "How long will it take to complete my mount"? That answer varies but I work on commercial items in the order recieved. As of today, the average skin mounted fish will take about 120 days. A reproduction fish will depend on the species and size.
